In the past couple months, I teamed up with photographer Nicolle Clemetson , owner of Studio 8 photo studio in Downtown Phoenix. Creating LookBooks for professional talent newly signed and currently represented. Agency's such as Ford Models and Agency AZ fashion divisions have shot fresh new looks for their talent portfolios.

Spending 2-3 hours per model we sift through wardrobe and heels. I fill in any missing pieces with an arsenal of fashion goodies. Flip on the steamer and head to the makeup chair. Keeping it real simple, I add subtle makeup and simple hair styling as to show the girls natural beauty. This is exactly what the agency's want and future clients need to see. Nicolle already set up, she sync's up the genius internet radio station Pandora creating stations anywhere between Ella Fitzgerald to Britney Spears to She & Him. A variety of melodic choices, all seem to lend fair for all age, even the mom's know the big daddy rapper Jay-Z!

Being a girl team has proven to be very cool on both sides of the camera. Nicolle's fun laid back style of shooting, creates a creative place for models to bring their best foot forward easily, effortlessly and beautifully as you can see below. We both love our jobs and there is normally a lot of giggling and high fives too...shhhhh don't tell. Were total geeks!!!

When we look deeper than the surface, beauty can be defined so much more than just looks. Self esteem, self worth and that unconditional love we feel for ourselves therein lies our true Beauty.

In my profession as a stylist, I see the transformation of how a little makeup, hair and the right outfit will change the outside. But the real change that sets this in motion is how it makes us feel on the inside.

Good Times at NASCAR with Arsenio Hall & the Jay Leno Show

YES! My first go at NASCAR. The rumble of the cars, the smell of exhaust, the southern hospitality of the family of NASCAR all running around with The Jay Leno Show all equal a good time. For the past 4 years, I've worked with The Tonight Show when Jay hosted doing a couple spots with Comedian Tom Papa here in Arizona.

But this weekend's desert excursion held a much anticipated fanfare while I hit the hot asphalt with Comedian, Talk Show Host, Actor and fellow Aquarian Arsenio Hall. Making sure he was camera ready on a 2 day jaunt around the Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, AZ exploring all of things NASCAR.

Meeting a couple race car drivers, one really stuck out to me. Legend champ Richard Petty at his Petty Experience track, I think his hat should have it's own experience. I love it!

Kind, thoughtful and very gracious with his fans Arsenio was a pleasure to work with. In all my years in this business...the most successful people I've had the pleasure to meet are by far THE NICEST!!!

Modeling this fresh, simple everyday look is my dear friend Sarah Kirsch. It's been almost 10 years since we've shot together! I remember running around Scottsdale photographing her in 112 degrees wearing a White Faux furr coat and vinyl pants of 1990's from our friends at 42 Saint. Hahaha...good times. So last week Peterman, & I started a new series. I wrangled Sarah back into the studio to be apart of this project...YAY!

We love when Michele posts new portfolios so we thought we would help the community get to know her a little bit better. We would share more of her bio… but since she is an Oribe.pro member we encourage you to just check out her profile.

You have posted a lot of portfolios on Oribe.pro. Why?
It’s fun to share. And my portfolio is next to Oribe’s… how amazing is that? The fact that he even commented on my work was unreal.

Any advice to those thinking about adding portfolios of their work to Oribe.pro?
Continue doing what you love and the rest is going to follow. If you continue to style… take the time… and find a photographer to shoot it… or do it yourself… to capture it on film is tremendous. This is a visual world… people want to see the work… don’t worry about how people are going to judge you… you are your own judge. Put yourself out there, be willing to share… if you are cutting or coloring, people are going to see your stuff anyway.

What would you like to see on Oribe.pro that isn’t on there?
My favorite is to see pictures from backstage. That really inspires me. Just to see a table setup. How somebody else organizes themselves teaches people a lot. Styling is time… you may have only 15 minutes – so, I get a lot out of seeing pictures of backstage or videos of how people work. (Editor’s Note: Excellent idea. We will add some more photos soon. For now, there are some great videos in the Editorial Section).

How did you start doing hair?
My mom gave me an old Pentax camera, which I still use. I fell in love with it. I just started shooting everything… and kept shooting. I started photographing friends and was attracted to models that were really confident, because that confidence just came across on camera. Then I realized someone had to do the hair and makeup. And it happened from there.

How much time a day do you spend online?
I designed my own website. I do my own marketing. So, I do tend to find myself online about 4 days a week. I haven’t been updating my blog as much as I could. This is new technology for me. It is about sharing my work with the world. I am getting into my own system. I am an artist. I am not a sit at a desk type person – but I do sit at a desk to do my web stuff.

Why do you have a website?
People love to see what you can do. It is a visual job that we have as stylists. Because people like to see what you can do, the web is one of the best venues you can do it in. When I met with Ford Agency they said that I need a website… so I put one up in a week… and my jobs tripled. Even everyday clients, a girl that is getting married, or a girl that has a night out… checks it out. I always ask how people found me and they often say the internet. I think showing your work online is really valuable, and I think more stylists should have websites. People want to see what they can do… they don’t want to just show up to a salon and hope they get someone good.

What do you tweet about?
For me it is about sharing my work. I’m inspired by people. Everyone can blog about products or makeup. For me it is about experiences… and if they are having a great experience, it shows. I like writing about people. People I have met, models I meet…

Where do you go to for references?
I get inspired by the models. I get inspired by their essence… and take what we are creating and try to bring something in them to the forefront. Everybody is beautiful. No matter what they look like. It is my job to bring that out.

How do you stay inspired?
A lot of the inspiration I have comes from collaborating. I love collaborating with other artists. It is so much fun to meet with people who are like-minded – but to come at it with a fresh slate – and everyone just thinks together. It’s beautiful.

Why Phoenix? Why not L.A.? Or New York?
I’m moving to L.A. I’m going to split my time though, I still have my clients here. The doors are opening and I am just walking through them. It’s time.

Who do you admire?
I admire the Dalai Lama. I love Eastern philosophy. I am inspired by Eckhart Tolle, Oprah, our President… their honesty, how they share with other people, their kindness in their work… most people in the business world don’t share… they don’t teach… but their level of teaching comes through in their work and it reads to people who interact with them. Teach with love. Talk about things with love.

Your personal luxury?
That’s a hard one. I like my space. I like my house. But I like to be pampered…. I get reflexology, or a facial, or a massage… or get on a plane and go to Hawaii. I am a spontaneous traveler.

Who cuts your hair?
I’m on a hunt.

What’s your favorite Oribe product?
The Superfine Hair Spray. It is absolutely amazing. It is so light. And my clients love how it smells. I get compliments all the time… I love that hairspray… even men do.

Inspired by old fashioned perfume cards where models were just drawings. Our team decided to high tail it back to a place in time where advertising evolved from pen and paper to photography. Elegant women of the time selling everything from cigarettes to perfume, chocolate and makeup. Madeline Hall, our model, defines classic beauty with her soft, feminine style that fits perfectly for this shoot. A timeless model, I see a very cool campaigns in her near future. Casey Hagarty wardrobe stylist, pieced together lovely items and Mark Peterman, behind the lens, delivers exquisite images...as usual.

Professional Organic Spray Training

I love teaching....it's one of the most fantastic parts that make life worth living to me. Being able to pass down that share the same vision is amazing. Since I started airbrush tanning, the simple part was adding it to my makeup business. Then one day it just happened when I was being 'stalked' literally by one of my out of town clients. She HAD TO KNOW what I did, how I did it, and what I use.

I say this in good humor because when I started the Organic Glow I did not plan on teaching. With makeup and hair styling, I see my clients maybe once to twice a year, if that. Yet, tanning opened a door. I started to see their smiling faces every week, 2 weeks or once a month since the beginning. Now it has evolved into training. I'm happy to train others to start their own business, it's so much fun.

When my snowbird client, arrived back home in Michigan after a sunny visit to Scottsdale where we met. She found an airbrush studio that really did a number on her. Splotchy, ashy and orange calling almost in tears, please help! So after a number of months and eager pleas, I said. Yes! Let's do this, I wouldn't feel right not sharing. I said give me some time. I'll call you when I am done designing a curriculum, line up some models and we'll get this class rollin'. What was planned as a simple training, turned into meeting a long lost soul sister, new entrepreneurs to train each month and another hat to add to my already long list of services.

Celebrity Hair Stylist, Oribe came to Scottsdale. Dashingly dressed in a crisp button down, casual jeans with a silver chain and his talented arms sporting the sexiest set of sleeved tattoo's!

This man has been in the business for over 30's years. Bringing his styling talents to us, his began styling a couple models, sharing stories some familiar ladies such as Scarlett Johanson, Lady Ga Ga, Nicole Kidman, Christy Turlington, Charlize Theron. As well as famed photographers such as Steven Meisel and Mario Testino...yeah you get it. He's the man.

When I arrived he was walking towards me. I turned and smiled "Uhm I love you! from the first shampoo I fell in love". He laughed "your so cute, thank you. that's great to hear. we love it too!".

It felt like a glamorous night filled with wine, yummy roasted snacks and Oribe just being his fabulous self. One thing that I'll never forget him saying. The plain and simple fact ( for any who is a freelance stylist) "It's 50% talent and 50% personality". Even though this man is a genius, he believes it's his freestyle outgoing, honest personality is what got him where he is today. A stylist sought after around the world, happy salon owner of 2 and the best hair care on the market. Oribe's hair care is like "gold". Paraben free formulated, these magical concoctions will heal the hair as well as give your do, vitamin punch. It's a bit $$$ and worth every penny!!!

Beautiful and strong...these girls WILL kick your *ss! Wrestling is it's own culture and in the beginning of the year, I got a peak into the lives of 3 superstars of the ring. It was a full day with a crew flown in coast to coast. Full wardrobe, a wardrobe stylist + assistant, 3 photo assistants , a writer for the WWE magazine, producer, Allison on Hair & I on makeup. We had a blast!

QVC coming to you LIVE in 116 degrees!

Oh my goodness, living in the Arizona heat is one thing but working in it is another! Especially as a makeup artist, most of the day turns into kindly removing the hotness from there forehead. Normally during the heat wave months of June, July and August productions take place in doors. On a rare occasions we'll do a swing shift; sunrise call time, mid day break then back on for a sunset shot. This job came at the early call time of 4:30am, broke at 10am then back to the set by 3:00. The mid day break was a lifesaver. I drove home took a 3 hour nap and was ready to brave the heat one more time. Not only were we filming LIVE outside at Fort McDowell casino, we had massive A/C units blowing chilled water, a paramedic waiting on-call in the parking lot and one women designated to hand out "frozen bandana's" to the crew. A product that is a big seller on QVC. I didn't care if their were flying horses or shooting stars printing on them I wanted to put one on every limp. But I refrained and took one for my neck. It was like a cold hug standing in the middle of a fire.

Joan Rivers :: legend of comedy

Joan Rivers was a delight to work with, outstandingly gracious and very funny.

Styling her in her hotel room. Laughing and talking story. With only 45 minutes to whip up some magic. It wasn't hard on that age defying lady. NO WRINKLES! I know, she knows, we all knows, she's had some work. Wow, it was outstanding.

Back to the show, prepping her Wardrobe and opening a Pinot... Yay! Smiling ear to ear, drinking with Joan. She said "girls, as soon as the band starts I'm gone". Metaphorically speaking, she went into her world to prepare for her stage act.

Skipping out into the audience to watch this legend bring down the house. Joan's humor, it is not geared for the straight man. By any means or if your offended by the celebrity knocks downs she throws out. Brash, bold and striking in her comedy. I laughed in shock at times what she stimulated. Haha.

After the show, I caught a big hug and asked to take a picture. Said goodbye. She simulated tears. So sweet...

The facts are in. You do not have to be 6' feet tall to kill it on camera. But being 5'10 and photogenic helps... yet not required. I'd like to take a moment and introduce model Caterina Lopez. Straight from the valley from the sun, this little lady is only 5'3 (one inch shorter than myself, even though I feel 6'0 inside) and has headed to the big apple to play in the big leagues of fashion.

Last year, I had the pleasure of working with Caterina. Watching her magic unfold on-set for a local editorial shoot. This newly signed miniature model blew the crew away with her blank stares, model stature and undeniable confidence that we all know all love. Jill Richards (photographer extraordinaire), Celine (editor queen) and I all looked at each other and went "Wohoooo". We had no idea what we were dealing with. A petite, consummate professional.

Last week I caught up with Caterina to see how New York was coming along. Here's what she had to report.

Arriving in NYC March 09', Cat signed with Ikon NYC and Ikon Canada. Currently residing in a IKon model apartment with 5 other girls (yep, that's dedication right there). Caterina believes that she may be "the shortest model in the world" but proved her lanky predecessors' a tough race with her polished poise. Learning quick that beauty is one thing but personality will win a call back. Caterina's genuine thoughtfulness and a drive to succeed is setting a new track record for the model under 5'10 in New York City.

Taking this whirl wind adventure day by day, Caterina sees herself residing bi coastal between NYC and Californina. Uhhh, the life. For now, you'll be seeing her...

and then came The '66 corvette. A friend of mine is an old car buff just like my Dad. When I saw this fine ride I was mesmerized and I said "we have to shoot it, I'll get a girl you bring the car". So in January 09' I worked with the brilliant, Mark Peterman. And we rolled this beauty into his studio. Added Caterina, model Alex Cassuto and Donna on wardrobe, for a test day. It turned out beautiful and earned Mark a kudos from the PDN site under "Portfolio's of the month". Go Mark!
